			Research Project:
Previous work has identified transcriptomic alterations in the ASD cortex, characterized by the upregulation of genes expressed in astrocytes and microglia, downregulation of genes associated with synaptic activity, and attenuation of cortical patterning. However, this work is limited to only a few regions in the frontal and temporal cortex. I am expanding upon this work by categorizing transcriptional changes in ASD across the human cortex (11 regions) to gain regional specificity in our understanding of the ASD transcriptome. I aim to study genes that I find dysregulated in this work in parallel with genes implicated in other psychiatric disorders (i.e. schizophrenia) to gain a fuller understanding the distinctions and commonalities across these disorders.
