Novel Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Netrin-1 Induced Cardioprotection

The Cai lab publishes in BBA Mol. Basis of Disease and J. Mol. Cell Cardiol. to reveal novel molecular mechanisms underlying netrin-1 induced cardioprotection ex vivo and in vivo; together with our earlier publications on this innovative project (J. Mol. Cell Cardiol. 2010; Frontiers in Biosence Landmark Edition 2013) these data demonstrate that netrin-1 induced cardioprotection is mediated by increased DCC-dependent nitric oxide (NO) production, as well as reduced oxidative stress attributed to NO dependent attenuation of NADPH oxidase 4 activation, recoupling of eNOS and preservation of mitochondrial function.
