In Dr. Zhang’s new publication in J Mol and Cell Cardiol we reported for the first time that netrin-1 exerts potent cardioprotective effects in ischemia-reperfusion injured heart via a DCC/ERK1/2/eNOS s1177/NO/DCC feed-forward mechanism. In addition to an axon guiding protein for neuronal development and an angiogenic factor, netrin-1 now gains a new role as a cardioprotective agent.
