The veterinary staff at UCLA’s Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) maintains the highest level of humane laboratory animal health and care, while conforming to all federal, state, local, and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) laws, rules and guidelines. We provide daily health monitoring and assessment to all vertebrate animals on-campus. Animals appearing unwell are typically assessed by the veterinary staff within minutes to hours of that report, certainly within 24 hours of initial detection, based on the severity of the animal’s clinical signs. We provide advice and assistance to the research staff at all levels and stages of their animal research experiments. Additionally, a veterinarian is on-call 24 hours a day year-round to provide assistance to staff, and emergency veterinary care to the animals.
